This project involved civil engineering solutions. The gardens of this new build house consisted of made-up ground on a long slope, which had not been compacted. Faced with depths of three metres of moving soil, the design incorporated deep foundations for the retaining walls. The clients have four children and wanted a large level lawn and entertaining space. We created a good sized terrace, built a gazebo - complete with chandelier and bespoke benches and cushions - and created wide borders, filled with all year round colour. Thirty one trees frame the garden boundaries, creating privacy and a sense of structure within the new space. There are over two hundred roses and three thousand herbaceous plants. Scented shrubs edge the paths and a water feature, bench and fire-pit provide a chill-out space for the young adults of the family.
